Music to our ears

Therapy news: Friday 5th June 2020

We all learned a lot from placement Denise and we are so grateful to her for all the work she has done. Sadly her time has come to an end and so we asked her to say a few words…

“I enjoyed my final year music therapy placement with bibic. It was a challenging start because bibic does not have an existing music therapy practice within the organisation. However, bibic uses a holistic and integrated approach to provide care to the individuals, so music therapy, working as an extension of care and support to clients after assessments, can fit very well into the working philosophy of bibic.

I attended 27 sessions with 4 clients during my placement, providing both individual and group family music therapy sessions. Due to its flexibility and sensitivity to the clients’ needs, music therapy has enabled me to build secure and safe relationships with the clients and their family, enabling the clients to be heard and express themselves in a non-judgemental way.

While observing my clients through their therapy sessions, I noticed that most of them have a decreased level of anxiety, learn to use music, and play to express their feelings and begin to build a positive relationship with others.

My supervisor has been very supportive of my work throughout the placement, especially when it ended with the COVID19  lockdown and I can’t be more thankful for her regular check-ins and encouragement”.

“I have learned a great deal about setting up music therapy work and working independently, and at the same time, strongly feel part of the bibic family. I hope that bibic will continue to have music therapy placements and provide music therapy service in the future”!
